The Olympus TG-1 is the world’s first rugged camera to incorporate an ultra-bright, high-speed f2.0 lens, so you can capture high-quality images at blazing fast shutter speeds, even in low-light conditions. The camera’s three-inch high-resolution OLED display (610K dots) provides excellent visibility in bright situations, enabling you to compose the perfect shot in direct sunlight. It has a protective coatings help to prevent scratches and cut down on reflective glare, and the new lens on the Olympus TG-1 iHS transforms your photographs with the same FAST AF system technology found in Olympus PEN® cameras.

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS combines incredible durability with iHS technology, the world’s first high-speed bright f2.0 lens on a Tough camera and converter-lens compatibility to create a versatile system camera. The combination of durability and outstanding image quality make it possible to shoot in even the harshest conditions.

Around the 4x 25-100mm zoom lens, Olympus built in a removable surround that allows you to screw on an adapter for converter lenses. A fisheye lens for dramatic wide-angle shots as well as a telephoto converter lens will be available to extend the optical zoom from 4x to 6.8x. Both lenses can be used down to 40 feet.

The TG-1 has a bright f2.0 maximum aperture. While it probably won’t give you a shallow depth of field like you’d get with an f2.0 lens on a digital SLR or mirrorless compact system camera, it will let in more light, which will come in very handy underwater and in other low-light situations. The ring around the lens easily unscrews, allowing you to attach the converter ring.

The Olympus Tough TG-1 lens may not be terrifically fast at the long end of the zoom but is usefully bright at its wide angle setting, especially for underwater photography. There will also be the option to add a full underwater housing for working at greater depths. The TG-1 is tougher than previous Tough models, being waterproof to 12m (40ft) and shockproof from a height of 2m (6.6ft) and will have optional waterproof fisheye and telephoto converter lenses available. The TG-1 iHS is built around a 1/2.3″-type 12MP back-lit CMOS sensor and a TruePic VI processor to make the most of its output.

The TG-1 is designed specifically to keep up with the on-the-go photographer, the new Super Sport Mode combines high-speed autofocus with extra fast shutter speeds – up to 1/2000 – to freeze the action. Conveniently located on the dial, this mode captures five shots in a high-speed burst to ensure crisp shots in even the most extreme action sport settings. Low Light Mode is perfect for capturing the mood of low-light indoor scenes, beautiful sunsets or late night outdoor festivities without ruining the ambience with a bright flash. Shoot like a pro with 10 frames-per-second high-speed burst shooting and 1080p Full HD videos (1920×1080 pixels) or 60 frames-per-second (3mp) at the touch of button, allowing for slow-motion playback.

The camera has built-in GPS and an electronic compass. Adding to the TG-1 iHS’s higher-end features is a very fast autofocus speed–Olympus says it’s the same fast autofocus system found in its interchangeable-lens Pen cameras–and Linear PCM audio recording in video mode.

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS looks like an advanced point-and-shoot camera that just happens to be rugged, thanks to a wide-aperture F2.0 lens, a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor optimized for low-light shooting, a 3-inch-diagonal OLED display, and 1080p high-definition video capture.

It also includes a 1080p Full HD Video, 4X optical zoom, 8x digital zoom (“super-resolution”), 3-inch high resolution OLED display (610k dots), LED illuminator in the front, geo-tagging with GPS and e.compass functions enabling route tracking using Google Earth and Picasa web applications. The converter ring allows expanding the optical capabilities with a lens converter adapter, waterproof Fisheye Converter Lens or Teleconverter Lens.

The SZ-31MR offers the same 16 megapixel backlit sensor and 24x (25-600mm) optical zoom as its predecessor, but adds in a new image processor in the shape of the dual engine TruePic V. It is equipped with a 24 x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens, 25-600 mm zoom equivalent in 35-mm format, and 16 megapixel sensor. Which allows it to simultaneously capture 1080p HD Video and 16-Megapixel still images without missing a frame.

The new Olympus SZ-31MR combines the extreme opposites of super wide-angle and ultra-telephoto lens capability in an outstandingly small and lightweight camera. Its 25-600mm* super-compact zoom lens utilises professional-grade ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) and Olympus proprietary Dual-Sided Aspherical lens elements to achieve its extraordinary zoom range and high imaging performance. This remarkable 24x zoom lens represents the cutting-edge of optical engineering.

The new SZ-31MR brings touch-screen convenience with many powerful options. A simple tap of the high-resolution screen focuses the lens at the chosen point in the scene and takes the shot almost immediately. Other applications include LiveGuide touch control and touch-enabled picture playback.

The SZ-31MR is equipped with a touch screen LCD panel, and the camera is fitted with a High-Speed Sequential Shooting feature that enables 10 frames-per-second to be captured, together with high-speed autofocus. The Olympus SZ-31MR also comes with a selection of twelve power filters enabling you to add creativity to your shots.

The body of the SZ-31MR is just slightly tidier than that of its predecessor, thanks to the removal of one control, and the relocation of another. The Menu button is gone, it’s functionality taken over by the LCD touchscreen. The flash release lever, meanwhile, jumps from the side of the lens barrel to the top of the camera body, immediately adjacent to the flash.

The Olympus Tough TG-820 is based around a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor behind a 5x optical zoom lens which remains entirely within the body at all times, Olympus is hoping to tempt outdoorsy types away from rival brands with industrial looks and some impressive features.

Olympus’ iHS technology is found in this new model, the Olympus TG-820 allowing decent pictures in even low lighting conditions. Image stabilisation, HDR and a 3D shooting mode round off the specs nicely, and your snaps and videos can be played back on the big screen, courtesy of an HDMI-out port.

The new Olympus Tough TG-820 is equipped with a 12 megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor, new generation TruePic VI image processor, and new iHS technology for extremely quick camera response, super-fast focusing speeds, and superb high ISO performance. It has a super-high resolution 1,030,000-pixel LCD, and indeed it was pretty amazingly sharp in actualas long as you were looking at a photo or viewfinder image.

The Tough TG-820 can happily bathe in up to 10m of water, is crushproof up to 100KG and boasts a 3in 1030k-dot LCD. Photography specs include a 12MP sensor with 5x optical zoom and the ability to record full 1080p video. The TG-820 is also crushproof* to a weight of 100kg. Both feature a 5x wide optical zoom (28mm-140mm**) and super-legible, scratch-resistant 3” 1,030,000-dot HyperCrystal III LCD. It captures Full HD movies as well as still photos.

The Olympus TG-820 has a three-inch LCD display for image review and framing, although this isn’t a 3D screen: if you’re making use of the camera’s 3D shooting functionality, you’ll have to wait until you can transfer the resulting image to a compatible device to see how it turned out.

The lens of the Tough TG-820 offers up everything from a useful 28mm wide angle to a moderate 140mm telephoto. The maximum aperture’s a little dim, though, at f/3.9 to f/5.9 across the zoom range, perhaps robbing the camera of some of the light-gathering advantage gifted by its sensor. Dual image stabilization is included, meaning that the TG-820 doesn’t rely solely on software techniques to fight blur. Instead, it’s image sensor is mounted on a movable platter, allowing for true mechanical image stabilization, helping you get sharper pictures in low-light conditions.

ephotozine.com reviews writes:

“We have been impressed by cameras in the Tough range previously, such as the TG-610 which was featured packed with good image quality. The TG-820 does not disappoint, with the latest top of the range Tough camera building on previous results. There is now full 1080p HD video recording, a higher-resolution screen and an extended ISO range. There is very little to fault and some unique features, such as TAP control and LED macro, really make the Olympus Tough TG-820 stand out as an ideal camera for those who like to take pictures in extreme conditions.”

digitalcamerainfo.com writes:

“Surprisingly, Olympus is expected to price the TG-820 at $299, which is $100 less than the original MSRP of last year’s TG-810 camera. Did Olympus cut corners in performance in order to make the TG-820 cheaper? Or is this new camera simply a better deal than last year’s model? We’ll know more when we get the camera into our labs for a full-length review.”

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 features a delightfully retro design, similar to the other Micro Four Third cameras from Olympus. Olympus claims that the E-M5 is the world’s first camera to feature 5-axis image stabilization and has the world’s fastest autofocusing system.

The olympus EM5 amazing camera is able to capture up to 9.2 frames per second, which is exceptional for any DSLR camera. In addition, it boasts that this new camera has the fastest 35-area 3D tracking AF system of any interchangeable lens camera. As a professional caliber camera, captures stills in JPEG or RAW formats interchangeably, as well as MPO for 3D capture. Video needs are fully addressed with full HD 1920 x 1080, 59.94i video with stereo sound. The camera’s audio recorder features a Wind Noise Reduction feature and audio dubbing for still photos.

The Olympus OM-D EM-5 is designed to function both structurally and aesthetically like a pro mirrorless with all of the accompanying accoutrements. There is an optional battery grip complete with a secondary shutter-release button for superb handling and longer shooting times. The chassis of the camera is bolstered by superbly constructed body panels, and multiple seals, which makes it resistant to harmful dust and moisture.

On a conventional DSLR this is second nature: you can keep the camera against your face while making adjustments. This is more difficult because of the close positioning of the controls on the back to your cheeks and the top dial to your eye socket.

The construction makes plenty of use of magnesium alloy, so this diminutive camera is solid and there is a nice feel to the buttons and controls. There is enough grip too, with a lip for your fingers at the front and a rubber ramp on the back to keep your thumb in place.

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 contains an impressive array of Art Filters, Effect Filters and Color Modes. With respect to the viewing components for this camera, there is a special electronic view finder (EVF) installed with a 3.0 inch touch screen OLED offering 100% coverage of the image viewing area. The remarkable approximately 1.44 million pixels, ensures proper viewing in all lighting environments.

The menu system is very similar to the Olympus PEN E-P3 with even more options and controls. A number of buttons on the camera can be customised to get the camera setup how you want it with quick access to your favourite settings and it didn’t take us long to get it customised so we could quickly change ISO and shooting options. Below you can view the menus as well as the new touch-screen “Super Control Panel” in the walk-through video below. The camera’s menus have built in pop-up help describing each option.

The controls are relatively conventional in their layout, although you have both a wide selection of buttons and a full touchscreen too. There are two control dials, one surrounding the shutter button and a second on the rear of the top plate. These controls can be used in tandem to change settings easily, aperture and shutter for example, with the front dial changing exposure compensation by default in most shooting modes.

The mode dial is on the left and the camera has front and rear dials on the top, plus top function and video buttons. It feels more compact than the Olympus PEN E-P3, but is larger than the E-PL3. There is a large rear thumb grip and a textured leather effect front grip that covers the camera across the front, as well as side access to the SD memory card – this is weather sealed. The buttons are quite chunky making it possible to use the camera in cold weather when wearing gloves even though the buttons are quite small the amount they protrude from the camera helps.

The versatility of this camera is also quite robust in that it allows for all adjustments in white balance and exposure to be conducted in real time on both the EVF and LCD. It is also possible to alternate between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios to suit the photographer’s individual needs and requirements.

Features:

ephotozine.com reviews writes:

“When the Olympus OM-D E-M5 details were announced bit by bit it almost seemed too good to be true, with high speed continuous shooting, high resolution sensor, updated image stabilisation and weather sealed metal body and we were very excited to test the camera. Thankfully the camera lived up to our high expectations, and in some ways surpassed them with better than expected noise performance even at high ISO settings! The sensor in the camera has more resolution, with 16 megapixel compared to the PEN cameras 12 megapixels, yet also offers lower noise results! While the firmware may not be final, if the final results are anything like those we’ve seen so far, then this should be capable of producing excellent results. We look forward to testing the final version of the camera!”

techradar.com reviews writes:

“Time will tell if this camera manages to find a place in what is becoming an ever crowded market, and of course we can’t offer a full and final verdict until we await a final review sample, but initially it looks very promising.”

steves-digicams.com reviews writes:

“Our initial feelings about the camera are that this is a very promising new model from Olympus. We love their Digital PEN models, and this first entry in the OM-D line looks to build upon everything we love about their existing EVIL cameras, with some much appreciated additions; like the weatherproof shell and high-quality EVF.”

trustedreviews.com writes:

“This is an interesting addition to the Micro Four Thirds stable of interchangeable-lens compact system digital cameras. There’s little doubt that it offers bags of retro appeal and combines this with some cutting-edge digital cameras technology, including what is claimed to be the world’s fast AF system and a very usable electronic viewfinder. Whether this will be enough convince hard-up consumers to part with the best part of £1200 remains to be seen though.”

The Olympus VR-340 is the Olympus latest digital camera in its’ V-Series line of compact digital camera. The highlight is the 10x optical zoom lens, which is 35mm-equivalent to a 24-240mm lens. It is Combined with AF Tracking mode, to help capture and share superb close-ups and group shots of life’s most important moments, like births or weddings.

The Olympus VR-340′S 16 megapixel CCD image sensor is capable of recording 720p HD video. A simple, one-touch button allows you to record video clips with amazing clarity in high-definition, right from your camera. With sophisticated AF tracking, you can have confidence in capturing fast moving subjects like kids & pets.

The Olympus VR-340 is a 720p video device, though it’s also possible to shoot in 480p or 240p. Zoom control access is unlocked while a recording is in progress, so it’s possible to zoom in or out on your subject without pausing the movie.

The VR-340 comes with a 10x super wide optical zoom lens (24-240mm*). When you zoom right in for an expressive close-up, the grip makes it a lot easier to hold the camera steady and avoid blurring your shot. It’s more proof of Olympus’ determination that its slim cameras should deliver stills and movies that live up to its reputation for the very highest image quality. With 16 Megapixels (instead of 14), higher ISO for shooting in poor light and some new technological trickery for enhancing your shots with creative effects, both these cameras succeed.

The Olympus VR-340 includes all the technology you’d expect from more expensive compact cameras, including a standout 16-megapixel sensor, AF Illuminator and higher ISO for shooting in low light, designed to enhance your shots.

The olympus VR-340 also has an AF Illuminator and upgraded ISO capabilities to enhance the quality of low light photography. Beauty Make-up Mode is a new feature this year making it onto many other Olympus cameras. It allows you to add eyeliner and other make-up effects to photos as well as physically altering your photo subjects in-camera without the need of expensive software like Adobe Photoshop.

The Olympus VR-340 digital camera condenses 10x optical zoom into a pocketable chassis, and captures shots on a new 16 megapixel CCD. This small camera is moderately comfortable to hold in either one hand or two. We appreciate the addition of a rubberized thumb rest on the rear panel.

Reviews:

digitalcamerainfo.com reviews writes:

“Shooting with the VR-340 feels…okay. Not great, but passable. The interface can be simple for those who want it that way, but the sluggish operation will slow down experienced users. Physical handling is the same way: the new rubber is decent, but there’s really not much that can be done about the ultracompact form factor. Our outlook for this camera is neither good nor bad. With features as plain as they are, and no information about image quality, it’s just too early to tell. And with so many similar models out there in this highly competitive segment, we think the success of the VR-340 could go either way.”

The Olympus VR-360 has a high-resolution 16 megapixel CCD delivers superior image quality. Create poster-sized prints without losing detail. The VR-360 features a 12.5x (24-300mm*) super wide optical zoom lens and a 16 megapixel high-resolution sensor and high ISO capability for an excellent image quality even in poor light.

The 24-300mm equivalent optical zoom of the Olympus vr-360 lets you get closer to the action. Its 24mm wide-angle setting lets you capture more in your shot – photograph large interiors, wide vista landscapes and big group shots easily. The amazing 300mm setting allows you to capture nature close-up as well as actions shots on the sporting field.

The VR-360 can capture high definition 720p videos at 30 frames per second, using AVI Motion JPEG compression. Connectivity options include both USB 2.0 High Speed data, composite standard definition video output, and Type-C Mini HDMI high definition video output. A rechargeable LI-50B Lithium Ion battery with charger is included with the VR-360, although information on battery life wasn’t available at press time. Images are stored in a modest 34.9MB of internal memory, as well as on Secure Digital cards, including the higher-capacity SDHC and SDXC types.

The Olympus VR-360 features Dual Image Stabilisation that avoids any blur caused by imperceptible camera shake or fast-moving subjects – especially important for crystal-clear HD movies. A host of sophisticated electronic assistants like iAuto and AF Tracking rounds off the stunning feature list.

The VR-360 includes a variety of what the company terms Magic Art Filters, which are similar to the in-camera Art Filters first introduced in Olympus digital SLRs in 2009. Two 2011 model-year Magic Filters — Water Color and Reflection — are included, in addition to the Pop Art, Pin Hole, Fish-Eye, Soft Focus, Drawing, Sparkle, and Punk filters seen in previous models.

The Olympus VG170 is a compact digital camera featuring a best-in-class flash that is up to three times as powerful as the regular compact cameras. It is designed for photographers who regularly shoots indoors or in low-light conditionsusing flash illumination.

The Olympus VG-170 features an extraordinary strobe power of GN 8.7 (rated at ISO 100) that enables clear flash illumination of subjects up to 15 metres away. This compact camera is the ideal model for consumers desiring easy point-and-shoot flash photography with perfect results.

The top of the VG-170 holds the power button which is black to match the plastic strip that separates front from back. A silver shutter release sits next to it with the zoom rocker wrapped around it. The left side of the body raises up to accommodate the flash unit. A massive 3 inch screen sits on the left side of the camera at the back. To the right, only one button is allocated for menus which is joined by the navigation pad. A playback button and dedicated video record button also occupy the space that the screen isn’t using.

The Olympus VG-170 is a dapper looking digital compact camera with a 14 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom and a 3 inch LCD screen. The main addition to the VG-170 is the massive flash that sits in the top left corner above the lens. With a Guide Number of 8.8 it gives the range of the VG-170’s flash around double of any comparable camera. Other key features of the VG170 include 720p HD movies, a range of magic filters, 3D still images and a retro design.

The Olympus VG-170 offers 720p Motion JPEG high definition movie capture, although there’s no high-definition video output on this model, so you’ll have to transfer cards or use the USB connection to offload your data, if you want to see the result on a high-def display. A rechargeable LI-50B Lithium Ion battery with charger is included with the VG-170, although no information on battery life was available at press time. Images are stored in a rather limited 34.9MB of available internal memory, as well as on Secure Digital memory cards, including the higher-capacity SDHC types and SDXC types. Images and videos can be transferred to a PC over a USB 2.0 High-Speed connection, and there’s also a standard-definition video output.

The VG-170 is perfect for those who may require more flash illumination power than their normal compact cameras can provide. The VG-170 also automatically adjusts ISO sensitivity to compensate for low light conditions.

REVIEWS:

photographyblog.com reviews writes:

“Taking pictures is easy enough with the VG-170. We found that the Program mode will easily handle everything you throw at it and the Magic filters are great fun to use. Pictures come out nicely exposed while focusing is fast and sharp. We had great fun editing the pictures in-camera too. The beauty options in the main menu are great and family members enjoyed adding make-up to our self portraits. Of course that wasn’t funny and they’ve now been destroyed but the features work very well such as face slimming and eye liner. If you fit into the category we described above, you need to take a serious look at the new Olympus VG-170.”

cnet.co.uk reviews writes:

“On the evidence of these tests, the VG-170′s image quality leaves something to be desired. If you’re content not to zoom to 100 per cent, or if you’re printing pics or planning to use the images online, then the noise will be less of an issue. If so, the VG-170 would be a good first camera for older kids.”

The new Olympus SZ-12 is a 14-megapixel CCD sensor, a 24x optical wide-angle zoom lens (25-600mm equivalent*), a 3-inch LCD display (460K) and built-in Dual Image Stabilization. The SZ-12 offers the new Reflection magic filter takes the image and duplicates it across a horizontal or vertical plane of symmetry creating powerful illusions.

The super-slim SZ-12 is packed with state-of-the-art Olympus technology that delivers excellent image quality. A new, retro-chic “smart grip” at the front of the camera combined with built-in Dual Image Stabilization, helps cut out blur caused by imperceptible camera shake, allowing you to zoom right in for expressive close-ups and vivid HD 720p video.
This new superzoom gives you the flexibility to zoom right in and shoot brilliant close-ups without sacrificing versatility and image quality.

This camera features Telephoto Macro that helps you can capture the small details of an object and shoot at very close range (inches). The high-speed shooting mode shoots seven still images per second which is great for taking pictures of fast-moving subjects, like kids playing sports.

The SZ-10 is nicely configured and slips easily into any pocket, thanks to its 38mm slimness. It’s only when the power button is tapped that the lens emerges, nearly doubling the body depth. The maximum aperture is only f3.1, shrinking to f4.4 when the tele is fully extended, so you may need to dial in a slightly higher than normal ISO setting for out and about photography. Or lug a tripod with you to use a lower ISO and benefit from less noise in the image.

REVIEWS:

digitalcamerainfo.com writes:

“Other than a few tweaks to this camera’s outward appearance, the SZ-12 is remarkably similar–indeed suspiciously similar to its predecessor. That is, except for zoom. When manufacturers do this, we get nervous. Longer optical zoom does not necessarily suggest better image quality, in fact the two are often inversely related. The SZ-12 appears to be a classic optical zoom cash-in. Identical specs, plus a longer lens, plus a fresh coat of paint, equals profit. Right?”
