Weighting just 295g and measuring about 71.5 x 85 mm, the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens seems to very handy in convenient to use. The Sony DT 55-200mm is a compact, lightweight lens that offers versatile telephoto zoom.

The Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens is specially designed for the APS-size CCD imager of the Sony Alpha cameras. With a 35mm-equivalent range of 82.5mm to 300mm, the Sony DT 55-200mm is perfect for capturing faraway objects, outdoor performances, complex scenery and crisp close-ups.

The superb multi-purpose Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens is an excellent all-around value, covering the medium to long-distance telephoto range you will use most. It also provides close minimum focusing distance of about 3 feet (.95m), for tight shots of people, natural subjects and close-up details. Its compact, lightweight design makes it easy to carry as your standard or accessory lens – and all your shots will benefit from the Sony Super SteadyShot image stabilization system built into every Sony α system DSLR. (35mm equivalent: 82.5-300mm).
A major reason for its compact, lightweight design is the benefit of Super SteadyShot in-camera image stabilization, built into every Sony & 945 system DSLR – and enabling accessory lenses to eliminate the extra weight and expense of in-lens stabilization mechanisms.

The Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens is specially designed for the APS-size CCD imager used in Sony & 945 (alpha) DSLR cameras. APS-size sensors are smaller than a 35mm-format film frame, so the focal distance to cover the same field of view can be about 2/3 shorter – allowing a more compact lens design.

Digital camera world sells the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens Super cheap cameras sell the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens JR camera house sales the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens BK camera house sales the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens Gerry Gibbs camerahouse sell the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens Mandurah camera house sell the Sony DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Lens

With the ability to focus as closely as 3 feet (.95m), this telephoto lens also lets you move in for dramatic shots of people, natural subjects and close-up details.

The Sony DT 55-200mm is designed with 13 lens elements in 9 groups, with precision focusing performance and smooth zoom operation.

Because light of different wavelength (or color) bends at different angles when it passes through a lens, ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass is used to eliminate chromatic aberration by correcting certain wavelengths of light for sharp, clear images with well defined colors.

It also offers an internal focusing system provides fast responsive auto-focusing without affecting the balance of the camera.

Sophisticated Multi-Element Design
16 lens elements in 13 groups correct visual aberrations across the entire zoom range and help reduce weight.

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass
ED Glass lens elements minimize flare and greatly reduce chromatic aberration, giving you sharp, clear shots even at full telephoto extension.

Circular Aperture
Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Advisory when using DT lenses with full-frame (35mm equivalent) DSLR cameras.
Sony α (alpha) lenses with the Digital Technology (DT) designation are ideal for use on APS-C size DSLR cameras and are not recommended for use with full frame DSLR camera bodies (such as the DSLR-A900). Although DT lenses can be used with full frame cameras, they can only realize a maximum of 11MP image size (when using the DSLR-A900), and are not guaranteed to provide accurate Auto Exposure performance.

Photo reviews the Sony 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens and writes:
“The Sony 75-300/4.5-5.6 is a typical inexpensive telephoto zoom. Performance peaks around 135mm with sharp images both in the center of the frame and at the corners of the APS-C frame. As the lens is zoomed in or out the image softens somewhat, especially in the corners, and chromatic aberration becomes more visible at the edges of the frame. If you don’t mind 3rd party lenses, the offerings from Sigma and Tamron would seem to be well worth considering based on their greater macro magnification, use of LD glass and lower price.”

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass
ED Glass lenses minimize flare and greatly reduce chromatic aberration, giving you photos with sharper focus and more accurate color separation.

Circular Aperture
In low-light shots or nightscapes, out-of-focus light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Although DT lenses can be used with full frame cameras, they can only realize a maximum of 11MP image size (when using the DSLR-A900)., and are not guaranteed to provide accurate Auto Exposure performance.

PhotoReview.au reviews the Sony DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 and writes:
“The zoom and manual focusing rings moved smoothly and autofocusing was reasonably fast. However, you can’t reach the focusing ring when the lens hood is reversed, which is occasionally inconvenient. The lens hood, when fitted, proved effective at reducing most flare.”

Photozone reviews the Sony DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 and writes:
“At 11mm the critical border performance is just not there and high CAs and pronounced distortions don’t make things any better here…On the positive side vignetting is very well controlled and the build quality is fine. Nonetheless it is probably a better idea to have a deeper look at one of the Sigmas in this range.“

CameraLabs reviews the Sony DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 and writes:
“We can however say if you’re willing to accept some softness in the extreme corners and a modest focal range, then the DT 11-18mm will be a good option for Alpha DSLR owners wanting to indulge in some ultra wide angle photography.”

PopPhoto reviews the Sony DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 and writes:
” Lens bench test data showed Excellent sharpness and contrast at the three tested focal lengths, in keeping with the majority of performances among today’s digital-only ultrawides… Especially useful at close-focus distance for dramatically contrasting large foreground subjects with distant backgrounds, this lens controls distortion so well that it would probably be our first choice among DSLR optics for architecture.”

Under development for Autumn 2009, the Sony DT 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens makes 1:1 life-size imaging more accessible than ever before. The small, light Sony DT 30mm opens up exciting new creative possibilities with a detail-packed view of the world in close-up.

It’s never been easier for keen amateurs and step-up photographers to explore the creative possibilities of their digital SLR camera.

Sony has announced four new lenses to accompany its new Alpha models. Aimed squarely at the first-time DSLR owners it’s done so much to attract, all feature inexpensive construction (including plastic mounts) and a new in-lens autofocus system designated SAM (which stands for Smooth Autofocus Motor).

First up is a pair of new kit zooms (standard and telephoto), in the shape of the DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM and the DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6 SAM. These are accompanied by a pair of primes; the Sony DT 50mm F1.8 SAM and the Sony DT 30mm F2.8 macro SAM.

Optimized for use with APS-C sized image sensors, these lenses feature a Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) that enables in-lens auto focus (AF) drive for smooth, quiet operation, and high optical performance in a compact size.

The lens is a “DT”, so it is intended for APS-C DSLRs, and when mounted on those, you will get roughly the “equivalent” of 45mm. And while the lens has a built-in focusing motor, unlike Nikon, the Sony Alpha DSLRs have not been “declawed” – they still have the autofocusing capability, so keep that in mind if you are trading off between different SLR systems.

The Sony 100mm f/2.8 is the superb macro-focus lens for both close-up and distant subjects. The Sony 100mm Lens is a versatile macro-focus lens that covers a wide range of photographic applications, from close-up nature subjects to midrange telephoto shots, making it ideal to carry on location or in the field.

The Sony Alpha A100 camera is an instant classic: the top-quality 10 Megapixel DSLR system camera that builds on a two-decade legacy of Minolta photographic leadership, accepts 20 years of A-mount lenses sold worldwide, and introduces Sony imaging innovations like high-sensitivity shooting with Super SteadyShot in-camera image stabilization, Dynamic Range Optimizer to automatically increase detail in bright and dark picture areas, new Anti-Dust technology to keep the CCD imager clean for better pictures, and Eye-Start Auto focus system for faster camera response.

Sony 100mm macro lens – Contrast and Resolution
In conjunction with the Super SteadyShot image stabilization system Sony Alpha 100 DSLR camera, this lens captures bright, steady images of the Sony even working with hand-held camera in low light. Excellent optical precision gives your shots greater visual accuracy for close analysis of your subject. Speeds auto-focus response by limiting the range of distances that are brought into focus, Close-up Range, or Telephoto Range.

Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens SAL-100M28 – Focus and Aperture
For full creative control, a focus hold button located on the lens can lock auto-focusing. In auto-focus mode, the manual focus ring does not rotate, which improves handling ease. Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Photozone reviews the Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens and writes:
“The Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro is able to produce very sharp results combined with a negligible amount of distortions, vignetting and lateral CAs. However, longitudinal (axial) chromatic aberrations can be quite a problem in out-focus areas (f/2.8-f/5.6) resulting in a magenta to greenish tint in some situations – this is not unusual but unfortunate nonetheless. The build quality of the lens is fine although it doesn’t win any crown when looking towards the competition a la Micro-Nikkor AF-S 105mm f/2.8 VR or the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro. Same goes for the AF speed which does still rely on the slotted drive screw rather than Sony’s faster SSM (ultrasonic AF drive). The biggest problem of the Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro is probably its price tag – at around 680€ or 580US$ it is substantially more expensive than the third-party alternatives without offering much if anything on top.”

kurtmunger.com reviews the Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens and writes:
“The Sony 100mm F/2.8 macro is a good lens, but not quite as good as the Sony 50mm macro. It’s pretty sharp through F/4 to F/11, very sharp from F/5.6-8. Color fringing is somewhat strong at wide apertures, but clears up nicely around F/5.6. It focuses good, though keep it on manual up close. The main differences in the Sony 100mm F/2.8 macro and the Sony 50mm F/2.8 macro are; the 50mm is smaller, lighter, less expensive and sharper at F/2.8 and has better CA control. The 50mm has a lens barrel to subject distance at maximum macro of only 1.9″ (48mm) as opposed to the 100mm 6.2″ (157mm) distance. Normally, close working distances will bring you problems with shadows on your subject from the lens, although some people won’t get that close so they won’t be bothered by this. If you shoot a lot of really close macros, you might want to choose this lens over the 50mm macro. Both have a smooth background blur or Bokeh. The Sony 100mm F/2.8 macro could also serve duty as a portrait lens or medium telephoto for low light events where the 50mm might not be enough.”

photo.net reviews the Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens and writes:
“The Sony 100mm f/2.8 macro is a very good lens. It’s sharp wide open and aberrations are well controlled. The 100mm focal length gives a good working distance for macro work (6″ at 1:1) and also makes the lens quite useful for portrait work.”
