The Sony Handycam HDR-PJ760V camcorder is the latest handycam from Sony with 1080p recording and a projector to watch movies with. This camera is capable of shooting full HD 1080p and taking 24.1 megapixel still images. It features a pop-out screen and a projector which can shoot up to 800 inches.

The Sony PJ760V is a Full HD model that can record using a variety of frame rates and offers 24.1 megapixel still image capture. The PJ760V is capable of projecting videos of up to 100 inches diagonally in size, and storing 120 hours of video on 96 GB of internal flash memory.

The HDR-PJ760V comes with a 96 GB of internal flash memory which can be expanded with an SD, SDHC, or MemoryStick. The camera has an optical zoom of 17x with controls on a 3-inch touchscreen. It does have an HDMI port and a wireless remote.

The Sony Handycam HDR-PJ760V is a reasonably comfortable video camera, with a good hand strap, but a few minor handling issues. The right side felt rigid in our palm, and we yearned for a more ergonomic shape that would fit better in our hands. We also noticed our pinky coming awfully close to the built-in mic on the top of the camcorder when we gripped it in our hand.

The Handycam PJ760V offers a 10x optical zoom that can be controlled via the toggle on the roof of the camcorder, or by using the zoom touch-buttons on the LCD. The zoom limit of 10x isn’t all that exceptional, but most high-end HD camcorders top out with optical zoom around 10x – 15×. The large sensors and lenses in these camcorders usually can’t accommodate for much more zoom than that.

Manual controls on the HDR-PJ760V got a huge upgrade compared to the offerings on last year’s PJ30V from Sony. The new camcorder includes manual control options for focus, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and exposure controls, all of which can be adjusted using a front-mounted control dial—the same dial that Sony has included on its flagship models in the past.

The Sony HDR-PJ760V has an AGC limit function that essentially allows you to control the gain levels used by the camcorder (although not completely). With this feature, you set a gain limit for the camcorder to use, so when this limit is set the camcorder won’t boost the gain any far than that limit. The limit options include 24dB, 21dB, 18dB, 15dB, 12dB, 9dB, 6dB, 3dB, and 0dB. Canon has a nearly identical feature on a number of its Vixia camcorders, so it’s about time Sony included this option on a Handycam.

The PJ760V is outfitted with prosumer features like CinemaTone presets, a 24p recording option, optical image stabilization (SteadyShot), zebra patterns, and focus assistance (including peaking). We’ve seen most of these features before on Sony’s flagship models from previous years, but this is the first time Sony has included these options on a projector camcorder.

The Sony HDRPJ260V Handycam is equipped with a built-in projector and stereo speakers which can help you share your beautiful memories virtually anywhere, offers 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution at 60p/i fps letting you record your adventures and memories in exceptional Full HD quality.

The HDR-PJ260V offers 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution letting you record your adventures and memories in exceptional Full HD quality. The camcorder is capable of 60i recording and 60i playback via HDMI. You can use the camera’s HDMI output to view your footage on a compatible HDTV in stunning clarity with incredible detail and smooth playback of your memories. You can also use the camcorder to capture 8.9 megapixel still images.

The Sony Handycam HDR-PJ260V features dedicated mic and headphone inputs for expanded audio recording options and convenient monitoring of audio with headphones (external microphones and headphones sold separately).

The Sony PJ260V also features a built-in GPS receiver makes the HDR-PJ260V an ideal choice for travelers. The receiver gives you the ability to view your current location on the LCD map display, as well as “tag” your shooting locations. Tagged videos and still images can be reviewed and played back using the Map Index function on the camcorder or once downloaded to your PC using the supplied PlayMemories Home software. Additionally, the receiver automatically adjusts your camcorder’s clock to the proper time zone.

The high-speed, built-in USB 2.0 cable allows for easy connection to your computer for charging or file transfer without having to remember any separate cables. It also fits conveniently into the hand strap so it’s out of the way until you need it. Plus, charging your camcorder is faster than ever; for every two minutes of charge time you get one minute of recording time. Designed for compact cameras and camcorders, the Exmor R CMOS sensor relocates the photo diodes above the support circuitry, maximizing the light gathering area per pixel, so you can shoot with better results in lower lighting conditions

There’s 16GB of embedded flash memory, which can support up to three hours of recording using the HD LP mode. Plus, if you want more storage, there’s also a memory card slot that supports SD / SDHC / SDXC (class 4 or higher) memory cards, as well as Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo cards.

The 3.0″ Clear Photo LCD touch screen panel displays sharp, bright and vivid images that let you compose a shot more easily – even outdoors. It also enables you to change settings to best represent the scene. The PJ260V camera’s 55x extended zoom works in conjunction with 30x optical zoom to get you even closer to the action while maintaining a fair distance and high definition image quality. The camera’s integrated high-contrast projector is built-in to the 3.0″ LCD display panel. This gives you the freedom to share your footage and stills virtually anywhere. The projector is powerful enough to project up to a 100″ diagonal screen. Combined with advanced Clear Phase stereo speakers, your home movies will come alive for you, your friends and your family

With this camcorder you can store your home movies by copying videos from your camcorder directly to an external hard disk drive (sold separately), all without a computer. Your camcorder can also access videos stored on the external hard drive for playback on your HDTV, allowing you to utilize the camcorder’s handy playback features.

reviews.cnet.com writes:

“This is my choice for a mainstream model. With a wide-angle 30x zoom lens, GPS, and 16GB internal memory at $649 it’s got just enough frills to justify the price, and though it’s more expensive than the nonprojector version, I think the projector is worth it if you’re going to be spending that much money.”

The Sony HDR-PJ30 Handycam has a built-in, high-contrast projector. It can project up to a 60″ (diag.) image on any flat surface, and with powerful stereo speakers, you’ll hear all the action. The PJ30 has a conversion Lens feature that is only meant to be used when a lens is attached to the camcorder (e.g. wide angle converter, tele conversion lens). This setting will optimize the autofocus and stabilization settings to work with the attached conversion lens.

The Sony PJ30 has a high-resolution which captures stunning videos, making it second to none when it comes to image quality. You need not be a professional to handle the user-friendly HDR-PJ30 from Sony.

Features:

   “Exmor R” CMOS Sensor

29.8 mm wide angle Sony G Lens

    Built-in Projector

    32GB Internal Memory

    Optical SteadyShot with Active mode

    7.1M still picture

There are a number of audio features on the PJ30V, but the camcorder does not have a full-fledged manual audio level adjustment option. You can change the mic level to normal or low, switch the audio record mode between 5.1-channel stereo and 2-channel stereo, turn on a wind noise reduction filter, or use a zoom mic feature.

Even with iAuto turned off, you can still use the Sony HDR-PJ30V with basic auto controls. Intelligent Auto simply makes sure everything is set to auto, and it also picks scene modes to use automatically while you are shooting. In regular mode, you can go into the menu system and set features to auto that you’d like to control automatically, or you can turn some things to manual if you want to change the auto control.

The Sony HDR-PJ30V is a tease when it comes to in-camera editing. There is an entire editing section in the menu system, but it only lists four options: delete, protect, copy, and direct copy. Being able to copy clips from the internal memory to a memory card (or vice versa) is definitely beneficial, but we wouldn’t go so far as to call them “editing features.

Of the basic auto controls, the PJ30V handled focus the best. The camcorder was quick to switch between macro and regular focus, and it would even focus on items held directly against the front of the lens. The only negative of the camcorder’s autofocus was that it occasionally worked too quickly, as some users prefer a slower, smoother focus effect. Auto exposure adjustment was also quick, but looked rather smooth in our experiments with the PJ30V.

The Canon HFG10 features a professional HD CMOS Pro Sensor and a 30mm optical wide angle lens with an 8 blade iris as seen on some of Canon’s professional video cameras. It delivers outstanding HD quality with wide dynamic range even in low light situations. Offering plenty of manual and creative control the HFG10 is a perfect creaitve tool for the promising videographer. Plus you can shoot for hours with the 32GB internal memory and expand the memory capacity with the dual card slots.

The Canon Legria HF G10 records at 60i, in native 24p, and in the 24p Cinema mode and 30p Progressive mode (both at 60i). With the 24p frame rate options you can give your footage a truly cinematic look. Using Cinema-Looks Filters you boost that film look with 9 built-in adjustable filters. Some choices include Cinema Standard, Dramatic B&W, Nostalgic, Old Movie, and Sepia. You can also shoot video that’s optimized for the ‘net with the 30p Progressive mode.

The G10 also features include a 10x optical zoom, a 58mm filter diameter, and a number of terminals. Connections include USB 2.0, Component and Composite outputs, a mini HDMI, and as one would expect on a model of this caliber, headphone and microphone jacks. Whether you’re shooting for a film look and feel or simply recording a family get-together, good audio makes your production. Canon gave the HF G10 multiple ways to achieve high-quality sound recording, including the aforementioned built-in microphone and headphone terminals.

The HF G10 allows you to record up to 12 hours of clear high definition video to a 32GB internal flash drive or to two SDXC-compatible memory card slots. With Relay Recording, the camcorder automatically switches video recording from the internal drive to the SD memory cards when the memory becomes full. No need then to worry about running out of recording time during a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime shot. With SDXC memory card compatibility, you’ll have card storage capacity from more than 32GB up to 2TB and ultra-fast data transfer speeds.

The Powered IS option (a button to the bottom left of the screen) can be used to achieve more stabilisation at the telephoto reach. It’s incredibly effective at stabilising the image at 10x optical zoom, though you do need to press and hold it, and the positioning of the button means that, ergonomically, things are a little hard to handle. Unfortunately, battery life is particularly short with all the use of the touchscreen and Powered IS, meaning that time between recharges is uncomfortably short.

The Canon G10 produces nice-looking still images, though not decent enough for any enlargement beyond an 11x20cm print. Colours are vivid without being oversaturated, and the camcorder exposes correctly pretty much all the time. Dynamic range is excellent with good definition between shadow and highlight areas, with only a really small amount of blown highlights in extreme situations.

cnet.com.au reviews writes:

“Provided you’ve got a wallet padded enough to take the blow, the Canon Legria HF G10 is an excellent high-end camcorder with a wealth of features. A few usability quirks here and there, as well as a frustrating in-camera editing experience, stops us from giving the HF G10 a glowing recommendation with an Editors’ Choice award.”

trustedreviews.com reviews writes:

“Canon’s LEGRIA HF G10 is close to being a perfect camcorder for video enthusiasts or professionals looking for a second unit for quick handheld work. Only the lack of a standard-sized accessory shoe and the price let it down. These two factors mean this camcorder doesn’t quite grab our very top recommendation. But it shoots great-looking video, particularly in low light, and has supremely easy manual control, making this a very tempting proposition.”

camcorderinfo.co.uk reviews writes:

“We’re impressed with the HF G10 in terms of performance and capability, but the camcorder’s £1235price tag may be too high for most consumers. You are getting a lot for your money, though, and for people who want access to professional-grade controls, paying around $1500 for a camcorder isn’t that bad. If you have more cash to spend, Canon does have the professional XA10 camcorder, which is identical to the HF G10 except it has a removable handlebar with XLR audio ports (and it costs around $2000).”

reviews.cnet.co.uk writes:

“If you’re comparing camcorders at the top of the range, the Canon Legria HF G10 certainly has plenty going for it, particularly in terms of image quality and manual controls. It’s bigger and lacks certain features when compared to similar models from other manufacturers, however, and it’s also one of the most expensive consumer camcorders currently available. The G10 is an undeniably high achiever, you have to wonder whether the marginal performance edge over some rivals is worth the extra cost.”

The Sony Handycam HDR-TD20V is a very innovative handycam camcorder. Its EXMOR R sensor is able to capture up to 20 megapixels still images and 1920×1080 full HD 60fps/24fps videos. The Sony HR-TD20V utilizes two Full HD sensors to capture true 1920 x 1080 3D video for a more immersive 3D experience.

The Sony HDR-TD20V has a Double Full HD 3D camcorder with an autostereoscopic 3D (glasses-free) playback monitor. It features Twin BSI CMOS sensors will record light gathered by twin wide angle lenses. Optical zoom once again maxes out at 10x, with optical SteadyShot in 3D and 2D shooting modes. It also features 64 GB of internal flash memory.

The Sony Handycam HDR-TD20V camcorder has a 3.5-inch glasses-free LCD, 64GB of flash storage, and dual Exmor R CMOS sensors behind 17x optical zoom lenses, which record at 1080p 60 and 24. The Sony TDV20 is also capable of 60p recording and playback via HDMI and a compatible HDTV, which provides stunning clarity and incredibly detailed playback of your videos. Plus, if you’re looking for a film-like quality to your video, 24p recording is also available.

The HDR-TD20V utilizes two Full HD sensors to capture true 1920 x 1080 3D video for a more immersive 3D experience. Each Exmor CMOS sensor affords stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. Designed for compact cameras and camcorders, the Exmor sensor relocates the photo diodes above the support circuitry, maximizing the light gathering area per pixel so you can shoot with better results in lower lighting conditions.

The HDR-TD20V Handycam has a built-in dual lens system, as well as two sensors which enables the TD20V to capture what Sony calls Double Full HD 3D. These two Full HD images are overlapped to create the 3D effect. A 10x zoom, manual focus, and manual exposure are available during 3D recording, but other controls are very limited. Many of the advanced auto functions, like focus tracking, scene modes, and smooth slow record don’t function during 3D recording.

Manual control access includes iris, shutter, exposure, and white balance; as well as a dedicated 2D/3D switch. A 5.1 channel surround microphone is included, and the camcorder’s software is capable of face detection with voice enhancement and noise reduction.

“A lot of the time when we see new products at CES, we come away disappointed that there aren’t enough updates or new features to make us excited. Manufacturers often love to “re-release” camcorders with a few design changes and mildly improved specs that translate to little improvement in performance or handling. We’re hinting that the Sony HDR-TD20V may be this kind of camcorder, although we can’t say for sure until we get the model into our labs for a thorough test.”
