Leica S2 Digital SLR Review

The Leica S2 will be the first DSLR camera in the new S-system, boosting 37 Megapixel of resolution. The sensor used is 56% larger than those used in a 35mm full-frame SLR. With the S2 SLR camera Leica will aim at the top-end professional photographer shooting advertising, fashion and other commercial work.

Leiсa has once again revolutionized the world of photography with a digital S-System that’s perfect for professional use. The camera, with its premium AF objectives including everything from ultra wide to super telephoto, is an absolute photographic highlight. The digital SLR camera has a special new sensor with 30 x 45 mm and 37.5 megapixels. The S2′s metal body is appreciably smaller and easier to carry than similar models from other camera brands, and yet it’s also nearly twice as fast thanks to ultra modern processor technology.

With the S2, Leiсa has created an entirely new class of camera – technically innovative but incredibly flexible thanks to a wide selection of accessories. It’s a must for every professional photographer who is looking to upgrade from standard 35mm SLR systems.

luminous-landscape.com writes:
“There is an elegant simplicity to the S2′s body. The top panel has just a shutter speed dial, a shutter release and a small status LCD. Well, actually it’s an OLED, and is a remarkable bit of eye candy. It is the brightest and clearest screen that I’ve ever seen in medium to low light levels. Unfortunately in direct sunlight it washes out and becomes almost unreadable, forcing one to shade it with ones body or hand..”

juzaphoto writes:
“The Leica S2 is one of the most interesting cameras I have tried: it combines amazing image quality with a camera body much more responsive than the majority of medium format cameras. Its sensor is not as big as the sensor of the Hasselblad H4D, but it is way bigger than 35mm FF sensors; another nice thing about the Leica S2 sensor is that it has 3:2 ratio, instead of the 4:3 ratio of the majority of MF cameras (this is a matter of personal taste, for me the 3:2 ratio is more pleasing).”

pdngearguide writes:
“The S2 is bank-vault solid. Built almost entirely of metal – with some exterior rubber as mentioned before – the S2 feels like it could handle a couple of significant drops and keep on clicking.”

photographyblog writes:
“The S2 definitely lives up to its DSLR-like billing though, being surprisingly light and portable, certainly no heavier or more cumbersome than a Nikon / Canon pro DSLR.”
